as an outside observer, i couldnt help but to give equal time to this
funny business of god. my analysis is directed toward the
christian god. but it equally might be applied to islam.
but my wishful thinking is maybe islam is more closer to operate
without in their god's name.
THE NEED OF GOD IS GENETIC
My name is Joe Ching. So I am using "joeching" to post in this forum.
There is no way I would use any other
name but my own. This is an example of self-assertiveness.
And this self-assertiveness extends to my total belief in myself and my
fellow human beings. It asserts that we shall
answer only to our consciences. And our deeds shall represent
humanity. The authority stops here, not any higher.
It may have something to do with my genetic makeup -- what I called the
id-gene. In the course of human breeding, some of us, especially in
China whose culture has revolved around
breeding, have genetically evolved past the threshhold of
self-identification as a full human being. Like a kid becoming
independent from his parents and turning
into an adult, he now does not need to rely on any higher
authority, like god, to behave responsibly.
But, for most westerners, the situation seems a bit
different. A general sense of self-inadequacy prevails, reinforced by
the Christian concept of sin. Lack of self-assertiveness causes them to
habitually do not want to be themselves. From a shot of whisky for
altering the mental state to plastic inplants for altering the outward
appearances, combatting insecurity has been a major
preoccupation. For many, a fixed-all solution is God.
So now, similar to the phenomenon of a fully grown person behaving like
a mother's baby, we have
bunch of God's creatures running around doing good deeds for
their God. History is filled with killings and dyings in the
name of God. One good example is George Bush. Without God, he
used to be an
alcoholic. And God saved him from that, but the Iraqis are not so
lucky.
While the simple fact may just be that we have to wait for
the id-gene to develop passing over the threshhold of humanhood.
This happened to China 5000 years ago. We started to record our
human experience as history when the best among us
came out to lead us to live in harmony with mother nature totally free
from any superstitious believe in gods.
The westerners' mistaken notion that heaven and earth are China's new
gods comes from their own inability to be one with
nature.
The closest parallel one can draw to the concept of god is that
a Chinese does have a god. It's his father. And we all
expect our sons and daughters to grow up to become better than
god.
Many of my Western friends have urge me to read Christian
literatures. They assured me that the ideas in the
writings are similar, if not identical, to mine, which are really just
Chinese cultures I pick up from browsing the Web, watching
documentaries and Oriental TV series and interacting with natives in
China. Well, this whole phenomenon has been a dilemma for me for
some times. But when I saw clear evidence of behaviors of
Christians contrary to their beliefs, I sense a prevailing conspiracy
that may just have last a good 2000 years in the Western part of the
world.
In the East when the beliefs are carved into one's psyche, or Chinese
like to called their benevolent hearts, there is no escape but to
obey. But when they are packaged with a
superstitious figure like God, Jesus Christ or Allah, the escape
clause spells
true freedom. Deep down any self-assured person gets to be that
way by being able to tell facts from fiction and beliefs from
superstition. Using the convenient superstitious God as a
scapegoat, a person become expediently capable of anything, some time
as evil as it comes. These are strong persons I am talking
about. Just imaging the weak-minded.
