IRONY OF AMERICA
America provides the most productive environment, but also the most
corruptive system. The result is that the new comers with
old-country work ethics
make
the most contributions and impressive breakthroughs
in science and technology, while the old natives are good at reaping
the harvest of the contributions of the immigrants. The American
ideals of freedom makes every man
looking out for himself, and that of democracy, every country for
itself, with America sitting on top of it all. So, the
future-generation Americans are corrupted into hungry pursuiters of
happiness and intense avoiders of pain and stress, mostly through
mass sessions of sport/entertainment events and massive doses of
pain medicines and other mood altering drugs, respectively.
Where are the facts? The American colleges are packed with
Asians, while one can hardly find any among the faculty ranks.
Americans consist of 6% of world's population but consume 60% of
world's illicit drugs. Immigrant Linus Torvald with his free
open-source linux computer operating system that runs and never quits
vs. blue-blood American Bill Gates with profitteering Windows operating
system that has AIDS. All the
American junior tennis phenoms have been either immigrants or 1st
generations.
On the last fact, I had an experienc of my own. Being an
immigrant myself, I set out to make my first-generation daughter a
tennis player. With my brand new Full-Body tennis style, she
became the winningest player in North California, awarded twice
the Player of the Year. But her Americanization caught on when
she reached teen. And by 15, she protested the hard life of an
athlete and quit.
I couldnt figure out what hit us until I realized that I myself
actually came to America with my parents. So she's 1.5
generation.
