RELIGION HIJACKS MORALITY
Many people consider religion is morality. But in its many
different forms, religions have, in effect, individually hijacked
morality. Now, morality is barred from being taught in schools
because it's impossible to decide which religion to teach. The
different brands of morality that identify themself with different
religions have caused most of the conflicts in the
world. It's as senseless to say that religious extremists
hijacked their religion, as it is as sensible to say their religion has
hijacked them.
My religious friends have urged me to read religious
literatures. They assured me that the ideas in the
writings are similar, if not identical, to mine, which are really just
Chinese cultures I pick up from googling the Web, watching
documentaries and Asian TV series and interacting with natives in
China. Well, this whole phenomenon has been a dilemma for me for
some times. But when I saw clear evidences of behaviors of
religious faithfuls that were contrary to the basic rules of human
conducts, I
sense a prevailing conspiracy
in the religion-dominated part of the
world.
In nonreligion-dominated part of the world, where morality are carved
into one's conscience, or what
Chinese
like to called their benevolent hearts(良心),
there is no escape but to
obey one's moral principles. But when such principles are
packaged with a overruling figure like God, Jesus or Allah, the
escape
clause spells huge loopholes. Deep down, all self-assertive
persons
are
able to tell facts from fiction and beliefs from
superstition. However, using the convenient God as
a
scapegoat, a person become expediently capable of any kind of evil
doing.
Nature seems to have its own solution to this man-made problem -- just
let the weak-minded, lost souls of religious zealots kill each
others off. But man is now anxious to solve this problem
himself. The religious die-hards on all sides have all
overcome the first doctrine of religious teaching -- thou should
not kill -- and are all ready to embark on mutual annihilation
weapons of mass destruction. Now they are all racing full speed
toward
the Judgement Day. This might be God's will, but not human's.
We must do something. We must forsake the present logjammed
generation and
put all our efforts into salvaging future generations. We need
to confront religion head on. Let's make it compulsory to teach
religion in school. But let's teach all the religions in the same
class. This would hopefully filter out the gods and goblings,
while leave the mutually reinforcing teachings of morality in the minds
of the students. I know this is just about the most fearful
scenerio to the religious faithfuls. But the alternative is
terrorama for us all.
