What is televisibility?
Well, if you can still see this writing on a television screen 12 feet away, then it satisfies the criterium of televisibility.
But the implication is farther than the eye can see. It means that your eyes will never again be strained when you work with computers. All the 50 and overs now can come back to do some serious computing without killing their eyes. Their extensive experiences and knowledge would be a big asset to the computing community.
We are finally able to stop this expensive race to come up with the most eye-friendly monitors. The door to the ultimate display hub, the TV, is finally open. Computing would be as popular as TV watching for it will be TV watching.
The obvious way to televisiblize the computing environment is to enlarge the fonts. But this does not automatically means that all the contents of the screen can be included in the display. We need also parse the contents. This is not only nontrivial, but it is also a bombshell.
First, all the little cute windows must go. These sneaky eye killers would just have committed suicide when they become non-visible on the TV screen. Many would complain about loss of information access. Well, the expedient solution to this problem is getting another TV, which is still a bargain in comparison to a monitor. But the long term solution is automation. We need to let the computer do the seeing and deciding as much as possible. Focusing all our attention on one single large screen would minimize distraction, thus also errors. This should be sufficient motivation for automation.
Another deep rooted issue relates to software development. We need to reduce everything from a 80x32 screen to 40x16. This starts with the editor and ends with all the program statements.
Considering all the trillions of lines of program statements now in existence, this is enough to cause a rebellion by the unruly hackers and the establishment programmers alike. But televisibilty is really a rebellion of the rest of us against them in the first place.
What's it all boils down to is the pitting of manual computing against automated computing. The software engineers today are still battling the computers to corner as much work as possible for themselves and away from computers. But the future calls for shifting work from the humans, who have finite and fixed mental resources, to the computers, whose capacity is increasing by leaps and bounces. And in automation, we can reformat and output the statements anyway we want.
ROBACUS is spearheading computing automation... and televisibility.
