UNIVERSAL ENGLISH

English has monopolized science and technology. This monopoly is enjoyed by all English-speaking people. The phenomenon is especially acute in the area of computer software industries. As computer software is destined to be the foundation of modern industries, it is important to leveling the playing field for all non-English speaking people in the world in their pursuits of industrial development. If the achievements of immigrants in America in high tech is any indication, once English is somehow made universal, many people can now avoid the humiliating processes of immigrating to America.

Computer owes its existence to the reduction of the numerical counting system from 0 to 10 to that of 0 to 1. Could it be possible that we may communicate better with computer if we perform some reduction on our major communication tool, which is English. The English-speaking people may want to debate this issue. But for the rest of us, either that or be left out of the computer age.

Some major approaches to produce this set of universal English are listed below:

* borrow from the ill-conceived approach by the Chinese to abbreviate her writing characters.

* as a signalling language for ease of communication with the computer

* 6-letter fixed word vocabulary for ease of string manipulation, truncating a word to 6 letter long

* based on natural-language programming and user interface

* minimal possible set, void of even the remotest synonyms, including various forms of a word's own functional forms

* disregard spelling mistakes

* forget about grammars

* pronounciation is irrelevant

* standardize for all computer users in the world, especially the non-English speaking nations

* revive the Chinese characters to her full cultural expression
